Just before half term, year 11 had the opportunity to learn more about apprenticeships as they get closer to making the decision about their post-16 destinations.

We welcomed visitors from ASK Apprenticeships, a government-funded organisation who aim to increase young people’s awareness of opportunities, and Toyota, one of Derby’s biggest apprenticeship employers!

All students took part in a workshop delivered by ASK at different points throughout the day. They learnt about the key facts around apprenticeships before using a search website to begin to look for opportunities that might interest them. Many students learnt things they did not know before, for example that apprenticeships are completely free of charge – even the university level ones!

Then, in the afternoon, around 60 students attended an assembly run by Toyota, which went into detail about their Production and Maintenance apprenticeship opportunities. Applications for Toyota’s apprenticeships are open now and will remain open until 9th December, so it is not too late for interested students to apply!

Overall, the students really enjoyed the day and many have said that they are now more likely to consider an apprenticeship after hearing from the visitors.

We were very impressed with how well the year 11s represented Derby Cathedral School and demonstrated Fellowship and Aspiration to the visitors.
